A few bits & pices
by Arlen Parsa
A couple of things I thought were noteworthy today:
- The Associated Press says that the White House Chief of Staff is counting down the days left until President Bush leaves office. That makes two of us, though for different reasons:
To keep the staff focused, Bolten handed out about a dozen countdown clocks that show the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds left in Bush’s presidency. The clock read 1,000 days in April when Bolten started his job, saying it was time for the White House to “get our mojo back.”
Six months later, the pendulum has swung the Democrats’ way, Iraq is chaotic and the president’s job approval rating is stuck in the 30s. There now are fewer than 800 days left — not a long time to push the Bush agenda, especially when the president’s power is slipping away.
- A humorous photo of Wolf Blitzer.
- A humorous photo of Larry King. Man, what is it with CNN hosts?
“Democrats to EPA: Stop Closing Libraries“:
A group of senior Democratic lawmakers has asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to stop closing its public libraries and discarding collection materials until it has permission from Congress.
ABC says “Former Tobacco Lobbyist Turned Governor Kills Statewide Anti-Smoking Program.” As you might be able to imagine, he’s a Republican:
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a former tobacco industry lobbyist, won a long battle in court to withdraw all funding for Mississippi’s highly successful anti-smoking program, and last week the last dollar ran out.
“This is truly a case of one man, a longtime tobacco industry lobbyist, using his power to destroy a program that was reducing tobacco use among Mississippi’s kids,” said Matthew Myers, President of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a national nonprofit organization.
- Finally, 14 Americans have died in Iraq during the first 3 days of December.
