The Daily Background gets a new logo.. plus an overview of previous logos

Well, it’s after the elections, and I thought I might as well get a new logo (okay it’s technically a header image, but I’m just gonna call it logo).

This is roughly (barring a few cosmetic changes here and there to previous logos) the fifth logo that The Daily Background has had in its lifetime, which began in early December of 2005.

The first logo was an black and white overhead view of New York City taken in the mid 20th century.

The second logo was a black and white photo of Tiananmen Square ‘tank man.’

The third logo was a 1905 photograph of child miners.

On the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina I ran this logo all week.

On the 5-year anniversary of the September 11th attacks, I ran this logo.

The sixth logo was actually a series of daily-updating ‘calendar logos’ each of which counted down the days left until the midterm elections. You can see a sample of that here (on election day, I used this simple logo).

After Democrats swept the House of Representatives and the Senate, I ran this celebratory logo for about two weeks. It featured (from left to right) DCCC Chair Rahm Emanuel, House Majority Whip-elect Jim Clyburn, House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader-elect Harry Reid, and DSCC Chair Chuck Schumer.

The current logo (seventh, by my count) is a photo of yours truly looking all dramatic and dashing.

Any thoughts on the new logo? Like it? Don’t like it? Better than the last one? Worse? Same? Suggestion for a future logo photo? Feedback appreciated, as always.

  1. Man, that´s a fantastic photo. I wonder who the photographer was.

  2. Clearly a master of photography of some sort. I guess we’ll never know. ;-)

  3. Nice pic. Where is the location?
