Every year for a long-ass time, the President has a pre-Thanksgiving event, where they “pardon” the turkey present. It’s a feel-good event, really no substance. Let us review great moments in Presidential turkey-pardoning.
Truman
Eisenhower
Kennedy
Johnson
Nixon
Ford
(No photos exist of Carter performing the thanskgiving pardon.)
Reagan
Bush Sr
Clinton
President Bush and the turkey in 2001. Clearly off to a good start.
After that, President Bush was cautious the next year with 2002’s turkey
President Bush, still wary of turkeys in 2003
President Bush, learning to love the turkey in 2004 (with the Vice President standing aside for backup if needed)
In 2005, President Bush spent some quality time with the turkey.
President Bush was… back to embarrassing the nation again in 2006
2007’s turkey pardon found Bush at the same level as the turkey, both physically and intellectually.
