This is the transcript of a conversation discussing a friend’s homework assignment regarding North Korea returning to six-party talks later this year.

Me: i kind of wish you had provided more background on the third paragraph
Me: for instance, you could talk about how north korea had a nuclear program since the 1980s but because of the clinton administration’s success with actual diplomacy in the 1990s, they had developed only one or two nuclear weapons by the time bush took office
Me: and how the bush administration tried the same approach, giving north korea 90 million dollars to work on a peaceful nuclear program, and then basically ignored north korea for the most part and refused to have two-party talks, what i like to call “real diplomacy” and now they’ve got 8-10 nuclear devices
Me: and how this represents an utter failure on the part of the bush administration
Me: which is so EAGER to go after iran because of a nuclear program that may or may not be weapon-related
Me: and iran is having serious difficulty with that, and had several setbacks in the past year or two
Me: and are 5-10 years away from any type of nuclear weapon
Me: while north korea is sitting there with 8-10 warheads
Me: that they developed during bush’s watch
Me: and how GEE WHIZ could the u.s. only be interested in iran rather than north korea because iran has one of the world’s top 5 largest reserves of OIL and how north korea only has a bunch of malnourished kids?
Me: oh, that and actual freaking nuclear weapons
Friend: hahaha
Me: the bush administration has been reluctant to engage in 1 on 1 negotiations like the clinton administration did
Me: (a successful approach) because they only had approximately 2 warheads by the time bush took office
Me: over more than 10 years of development
Me: and after only 5 years of Bush in office, they already have 8-10

  1. Oh well, at least I got one line in there. That does great things for my ego, Arlen.
