Some people have accused Iraqi insurgents of capitalizing on the timing of the midterm elections as an reason to increase violent attacks in order to make the war in Iraq less popular in America (of course Ramadan just ended which is always a very seasonally violent period). Apparently a top aide to the Iraqi Prime Minister however is freely admitting that the Iraqi government is trying to use the timing of the midterm elections in the United States. Associated Press:

A close aide to Nouri al-Maliki said later the prime minister was intentionally playing on U.S. voter displeasure with the war to strengthen his hand with Washington.
