by Arlen Parsa
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees now estimates that more than 914,000 Iraqis have left their homes during the Iraq war.
The Associated Press reports that “The overall number is likely to be much higher, said Ron Redmond, chief spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. The agency has concluded that 754,000 displaced Iraqis remain in the country, while tens of thousands more have sought refuge abroad.”
In the past several months, since February, the United Nations estimates, an astounding 360,000 Iraqis have become refugees- amounting to 1,300 Iraqis fleeing their homes every day.
These figures were compiled in part with assistance from the Iraqi government. Recently, the Iraq Prime Minister ordered his Ministry of Health to cease communicating to the United Nations about the number of Iraqi civilians dying in the current civil war.
