The Daily Background

Okay, let’s play a hypothetical game. Let’s say you’re a UAE student who run away from his dad and landed in Afghanistan and get arrested and tortured by al-Qaeda guys and you get coerced into a false confession to being a spy for the USA. They even force you to make a propaganda video at gunpoint.

Damn, that sucks. But then the US invades Afghanistan and you’re saved. Except that they think the propaganda video is real and imprison you at Guantanamo Bay for five years without charging you with any crime or having any real evidence against you besides the fake propaganda tape. Damn, that sucks more.

This is actually not hypothetical at all and actually happened to some poor fellow who is still rotting down in Gitmo. Damn, now that really sucks. The NYT has a story on it.
