Exclusive Brief: President Bush to meet with Hastert tomorrow
by Arlen Parsa

A knowledgeable source tells TheDailyBackground that the President plans to meet with House Speaker Dennis Hastert tomorrow at the one of Hastert’s regional offices in Illinois’ 14th district. Hastert has three regional offices and it was not immediately clear which he planned to meet with the President at.
The source was unaware if Hastert and President Bush planned to discuss, or if the event would merely be a photo op and show of support. Hastert has recently come under fire from Republicans and Democrats alike, over his handling of the Mark Foley scandal last week.
As noted earlier by TheDailyBackground, President Bush is planning to be in town for a 5 hour fundraising event for Republican candidates at the Chicago Hilton on Thursday.
After the Foley scandal became public, Hastert cancelled several weeks of fundraising for fellow Republican Congressional candidates and is not expected to attend many events in the lead-up to the midterm elections on November 7th. Many Republican candidates consider the House Speaker to be ‘radioactive’ at the moment, and have reportedly been avoiding Hastert and declining to appear with him in public. It is not expected that Hastert will be attending the President’s fundraising event.
