Video- Dem TV ad banned in Montana
by Arlen Parsa
The televison advertisement above has been branded not suitible for television, by several television stations in Montana. Why? Because of the language featured in it: the same words originally said by Republican Senator Conrad Burns. Apparently it’s not appropriate to repeat his language on television:
One station, KTVQ, pulled the ad after one viewing. The station manager told Congressional Quarterly he was “absolutely appalled” that someone had found the ad to be appropriate for television.
The ad included statements made by Burns, including the phrase “piss poor” and the Senator’s claim that a firefighter hadn’t “done a God damned thing,” during a now-infamous July encounter at a Montana airport.
Appalled? Surely the station manager was equally appalled that his Senator said those words in the first place. In my mind, something’s wrong when a US Senator cannot be quoted on television in his own state. Something wrong with the Senator? Something wrong with the television stations? Both, I think.
Senator Burns is of course battling a strong challenge from organic farmer Jon Tester.
