Ney Update: checks into alcohol detox clinic
by Arlen Parsa
Disgraced gormer Republican Representative Bob Ney has reportedly checked into a faccility for help with an alcohol problem, after pleading guilty to three counts of Abramoff-corruption related charges. The Washington Post provides few details on this new development, but this much is known:
Ney checked into an alcohol rehabilitation clinic Wednesday and apologized in a statement today for “serious mistakes” that have brought pain to his family and constituents.
[…]
He said he recently recognized that “a dependence on alcohol has been a problem for me.”
I’ll have more on this if it arises. Ney’s name will surely be in the news for several days now, even if nothing else arises regarding his apparent alcohol problem.
Update: Ney’s statement:
I have gone through a great deal of soul searching recently, and I have come to recognize that a dependence on alcohol has been a problem for me. I am not making any excuses, and I take full responsibility for my actions. Over the years, I have worked to help others, but now I am the one that needs help. I am seeking professional help for this problem I am hopeful that with counseling, time and the support of my family and friends, I will be able to deal with my dependency.
