I’m living in Chicago, so of course I have to at least mention this. Former Republican Illinois Governor George Ryan was sentenced late yesterday to six and a half years in federal prison late yesterday after being convicted of corruption charges.

He got rid of the death penalty here in the state after realizing how unjust it had been and how many innocent people had been put to death, but ultimately lying, racketeering, bribery, fraud and just straight up corruption ended up catching up to him.

Legal blog TalkLeft notes that this was Patrick Fitzgerald’s other case.
