The Associated Press reports on Katherine Harris’ remarks on the role of religion and government.

Harris’ campaign released a statement Saturday saying she had been “speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government.”

The comments reflected “her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values,” the statement said, adding that Harris had previously supported pro-
Israel legislation and legislation recognizing the Holocaust.

Somehow I don’t see the respect for Judaism (or any other religion for that matter) in what she said. A reminder:

U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris (news, bio, voting record) told a religious journal that separation of church and state is “a lie” and God and the nation’s founding fathers did not intend the country be “a nation of secular laws.” The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will “legislate sin,” including abortion and gay marriage.

[…]
Separation of church and state is “a lie we have been told,” Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is “wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.”

“If you’re not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin,” Harris said.

Do you see where she was just being respectful to multiple religions? Separation of church and state is a “lie,” she said. Do you see the part where Harris explains that she doesn’t actually think that Thomas Jefferson (who originally coined the “separation” phrase in the 1700s) is a liar? Harris’ clarification clarified nothing more than the fact that she is a bigot who has no respect for the US Constitution, founding fathers, or the diverse American population. And that was already pretty clear anyways.

P.S.- Katherine, are you reading this? Cause if you are, I have a fashion tip for you: lipstick isn’t supposed to match your coat!
