Katherinie Harris is more extreme than anybody suspected

Disgusting Republican Florida Senate candidate Katherine Harris (who you might remember from the 2000-Florida Presidential election theft), has said a couple of really terrible things in a recent interview with a local newspaper.

“We have to have the faithful in government and over time that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.”

Separation of church and state is a “lie”? I guess founding father Thomas Jefferson who first uttered that phrase was just a big fat liar in Katherine’s opinion. Harris also said:

“Civil rights have to do with individual rights and I don’t think they apply to the gay issues. I have not supported gay marriage and I do not support any civil rights actions with regard to homosexuality.”

She doesn’t believe in equal rights for a certain minority of Americans because she doesn’t think that equality applies to them? Because she has judged their lifestyle and believes they are unworthy of equality? Horrrrrible. In addition, Harris went on to say the following about embryonic stem cell research:

There are no successes for embryonic. That is why the private sector is not involved and there is no justification for taking a live embryo and destroying it.”

This is of course an unbelievably misleading and straight up dishonest statement. The private sector is working on embryonic stem cell research, which scientists and doctors agree holds far more promise than cord blood stem cell research.

The reason why there are no “successes” for embryonic stem cell research and there are “successes” for cord blood stem cell research is that the government has allowed public funding for the latter and hence much more work and time has been spent on it. But already without government funding great strides have been made in using embryonic stem cells for experimental cures, including curing paralysis in mice.

Further, I don’t think that Katherine has been paying much attention to the news lately regarding embryonic stem cell research.

This lady is awful. Thank goodness the people of Florida recognize this and won’t be making her their Senator this fall. Raw Story has more. Oh, and by the way Katherine, lipstick isn’t supposed to match your coat!
