Bits and Pieces: More Polls, Lieberman, and Plame investigation
by Arlen Parsa
Polls
American’s opposition to the war in Iraq is at an all time high, according to a new CNN poll released today.
Earlier today, I noted several polls about notable Democrats.
In addition, a majority of Americans want the United States to take a more neutral position towards the Israeli-Lebanon conflict, a new poll suggests.
Misc
Some in Connecticut are trying to forcibly remove Joe Lieberman’s formal voter affiliation as a Democrat.

And finally…
Jason Leopold isn’t dead after-all, and he says Patrick Fitzgerald isn’t either. That’s right, Leopold is backkkkk. From his first article in months comes this:
An indictment first reported by Truthout said to be connected to Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald’s Plame investigation remains sealed, and Fitzgerald continues to work on the leak case.
The indictment, 06 cr 128, was returned by the grand jury hearing evidence in the CIA leak case between May 10 and May 17 - right around the time that Truthout reported, based on sources close to the investigation, that Karl Rove had been indicted on charges of perjury and lying to investigators.
However, that indictment remains under seal more than three months after it was filed - an unusually lengthy period of time, according to experts in the field of federal law. The indictment could be dismissed down the road, meaning the public may never get the opportunity to learn the identity of the defendant or the substance of the criminal case.

With Rove cooperating, the probe has once again shifted, and the focus now is on another high-level official in the executive branch: Vice President Dick Cheney.
Yes, he’s sticking with his story. After the fiasco over the independent Truthout reporter, I don’t even need to suggest how big of a truckload of salt to take this with.
The Daily Background

I work overseas for the government. Just a point of clarification; Leopold has written three very good stories over the past few weeks. Two on the Prudhoe Bay/BP disaster and another on the three year anniversary of the August 03 blackout and how the power grid is messed up still. I think you have a great post here and I just wanted to add that there very well could be a lot of activity going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. I think it’s important to remember that Karl Rove’s attorney is the only person who has said anything at this point. Fitz still hasn’t said a word one way or another in months, not even to confirm Rove’s attorney’s comments. I think this sealed indictment is interesting. I mean three months sounds like a long time to me. It must be something big in there don’t you think?
Oh interesting, I didn’t know that Leopold was up to anything.
Yeah, there is something going on, I’m sure of it (Fitz isn’t just sitting around on his butt all day), but I’ve no idea what it is. I want to believe Leopold’s suggestion that Cheney is at the center of the investigation (and there have been a few signs outside of Leopold’s reporting which have suggested as much), but I’m afraid to get my hopes up too far too fast.
I wonder if we’ll have to wait until spring 2007 when Libby finally gets into a courtroom to see this case back in the news again.
Thanks for the comment, Michael.
