Bill Clinton speaks on Lieberman
by Arlen Parsa
For those of you who haven’t heard already and were wondering what Bill Clinton was going to do after he campaigned briefly for Lieberman before he lost the Connecticut Senate primary, the former President answered questions about that very subject the other day on Good Morning America.
ThinkProgress has the video (Flash format). Here’s the transcript of the clip they have:
TAPPER: Joe Lieberman said that this was basically liberals in the party purging moderates such as him and you out of the party, and that there needs to be a voice for more moderate national security voices.
CLINTON: Well, if I were Joe and I were running as an independent that’s what I’d say, too. But that’s not quite right. That is, there were almost no Democrats who agreed with his position, which was I want to attack Iraq whether or not they have weapons of mass destruction. And his position was the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld position
Weirdly enough, the NYT Empire Zone blog (which I’ve quickly become a fan of, well, ever since they linked to me, haha) is only calling this “Clinton Backs Away, Slightly.”
Ehh, I dunno if I’d say calling Lieberman a Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld thinker is something exactly slight, but then again it’s not like he spat on the guy either. Although I’d rather have President Clinton spit on me than be aligned with Bush, Cheney or Rumsfeld.
Hey speaking of Lieberman, check out Chris Bower’s bit on stripping him of his seniority.
Also, while we’re on the subject of the race, the CNN Headline News host who suggested Lamont was the al Qaeda candidate the other day has apologized on-air to Ned. Crooks and Liars has the video (Quicktime, Windows Media choice).
