Study: Immigrants don’t hurt jobs
by Arlen Parsa
One of the reasons why right-wingers hate immigrants (besides being straight out racist) is the myth that immigrants (legal and otherwise) hurt American workers by taking jobs away from Americans. A very common myth. Washington Post writes today:
High levels of immigration in the past 15 years do not appear to have hurt employment opportunities for American workers, according to a new report.
The Pew Hispanic Center analyzed immigration state by state using U.S. Census data, evaluating it against unemployment levels. No clear correlation between the two could be found.
Other factors, such as economic growth, have likely played a larger role in influencing the American job market, said Rakesh Kochhar, principal author of the report and an economist at the Pew Hispanic Center in the District
The immigration debate will of course come up again, probably this year, but this new study is useful ammunition for those of us fighting prejudice against immigrants and the rhetoric of racist xenophobic minutemen types.
The Daily Background

Wow, you’re a real economics genius! Sixty million people comprised of new immigrant workers and their offspring have no effect on labor? What junior college business profram did you flunk out of. www.vdare.com
Ahem.
Did you even read the entry? I made it very clear that these are the findings of Pew Research, a very well respected firm. I didn’t just make this up, these are the results of an intensive study. Instead of attacking me, perhaps you should try attacking Pew Research.
Oh and P.S.- To answer your question, I haven’t flunked out of any junior college business “profram.”
Now, see “Post Worshipfully Labels Pew Hispanic Center ‘Unbiased’”:

Something else to think about: who financially benefits from studies that show conclusions such as this?
The link you just linked to is to a right-wing thinktank called the Business Media Institute, which is run by the Media Research Center. For more information on its biases, as well as frequent criticism of the group, see its Wikipedia entry.
