Lamont v Lieberman RESULTS THREAD
by Arlen Parsa
Results will be posted here, feel free to be liberal with your refreshings if you’re following along with me.
Update 1: Lamont rumored to win absentee vote by slim to large margins in some precincts.
Update 2: The online results page is being hammered right now by traffic from all over the net, so it’s not responding (at least I got an error message; try for yourself). Probably because it just got linked to from the front page of DailyKos. Joe Lieberman will probably be claiming it was hacked or something pretty soon. The results have started to come in though, and Lamont leads Liberman 42% to 57%. More soon.
Update 3: Four percent of precincts reporting now, with Lamont still ahead 59% to 40%. Early leads don’t mean anything though, as I just said to a friend online. Err, I just heard that Lieberman is at 43% with 9% reporting but I don’t have a link yet. More soon.
Update 4: 11% of precincts reporting, Ned Lamont 19,257 56%
Joe Lieberman 14,870 44%. You can check results here.
Update 5: Lieberman lost his home precinct. 17% of precincts are reporting, Ned Lamont 29,463 56% Joe Lieberman 22,898 44% More soon.
Update 6: 25% of precincts: Ned Lamont 40,044 55%
Joe Lieberman 32,575 45% More soon.
Update 7: Ned won his hometown of Greenwich, with a solid 67% of the vote. 34% of precincts reporting Joseph I. Lieberman 46,941 45.9%, Ned Lamont 55,294 54.1%
Update 8: Thirty-eight percent of precincts are now reporting, Joseph I. Lieberman 53,159 46.4%. Ned Lamont 61,449 53.6%
Update 9: CT Secretary of State is saying that turnout was “strong everywhere” with some small towns having turnouts of over 60%… turnout is said to be well over normal general elections. “A great day for Democracy in Connecticut.” 44% reporting: Joseph I. Lieberman: 56,891, 46.9%, Ned Lamont: 64,383, 53.1%
Update 10: 50% of precincts now reporting. We’re over the hill. Joseph I. Lieberman: 64,700, 47.9%. Ned Lamont: 70,444, 52.1%
Update 11: I just heard 80% of precincts reporting on the radio, no link for this wahtsoever, but nytimes.com says on their front page 54% reporting, Joseph I. Lieberman: 68,718: 48.0%. Ned Lamont: 74,396: 52.0%.
Update 12: That 80% was just somebody mis-speaking, I was nuts to have even mentioned it anyways. 57% of precincts are reporting, Joseph I. Lieberman 72,964 47.8%. Ned Lamont: 79,580 52.2%. The race is certainly tightening, and at this rate we won’t have to wait until midnight for the results.
Update 13: 65% of precincts reporting- Joseph I. Lieberman: 84,231- 48.4%
Ned Lamont: 89,814- 51.6%. I’m hearing that that 80% precints reporting rumor wasn’t crazy after all, and that it’s true (although it hasn’t been officially confirmed). The rumor is that Lamont supposedly has 117,000 and Lieberman has 103,000. This is totally and entirely unconfirmed, so take it with a truckload of salt.
Update 14: Okay official numbers are: Joseph I. Lieberman- 94,148: 48.4%. Ned Lamont- 100,425: 51.6%. Rumor says Lamont 117,678 Lieberman 110,339. Could be wrong. I just heard Chris Matthews say he has heard from “an unimpeachable source that Joe Lieberman is going to run as an independent no matter what this fall.”
Update 15: 77% of precincts reporting, here we go: Joseph I. Lieberman 101,818- 48.2% Ned Lamont 109,239- 51.8%. The gap is getting smaller, but the number of votes in between is getting bigger. Staaay tuned.
Update 16: 80% reporting, Ned still leads with 51.8% and 114,165 votes. Lieberman has 48.2%. Rumor has it that Lamont is getting ready to do a victory speech.
Update 17: 84% reporting, Joseph I. Lieberman: 111,887- 48.1%. Ned Lamont: 120,616- 51.9%.
Update 18: Drudge has called the race for Lamont, NYT says too close to call, and is printing a first edition of their nationwide edition with this article, without calling the race for either Lamont or Lieberman. Lamont’s campaign after looking at the situation with what precincts have reported and what haven’t, think they may have won. The question now is the margin. Of course, this can all change…
Update 19: Eighty-seven percent of precincts are reporting now, with Joe Lieberman having 115,803 votes, and Ned Lamont with 124,528. That’s 51.8% to 48.2%. Percentage-wise it’s close, but that’s ten thousand votes right there.
Update 20: Some news orgs say 93% precincts reporting, 89% by others. Lamont leads however by all reports, at between 51-52 percent.
Update: 21: Lieberman about to give a speech, he’s mounting podium. 95% of votes are in, Lamont leads, Lieberman has called Lamont and congradulated him on his win, one Lieberman supporter booed when he announced it. He’s using a sports analogy, says that they’ve only completed the “first half” and they’re behind team Lamont but his team “team Connecticut” as he calls it is going to win. Says he’s not discouraged.
Update 22: Ned won, margin could have been better, but we’ll take what we can get. Joey is gonna run as an independent. We’ll see what happens. I’ll have lots more tomorrow I promise. But I’m calling it quits for tonight.
