For the latest Middle East news, check out my Middle East Update published this morning.

2006 Elections
Florida–Katherine Harris has actually gone down in the polls. I’m not sure anyone thought that was possible.

Connecticut– Bill Clinton stumped for Joe Lieberman yesterday, and most people think it’s somehow connected with Hillary (FDL has a roundup of interesting theories). One really interesting point that was made at the end of the entry is that Clinton’s appearance might actually hurt Lieberman, because a lot of Joey’s support comes from conservatives (who hate Clinton and like that Lieberman attacked him during the impeachment proceedings).

Bits and Pieces
Video– Kos on Nightline.

Glenn Greenwald explains what a Chicken Hawk is.

A federal judge has dismissed the ACLU lawsuit against AT&T over their illegal and unconstitutional spying-on-Americans program. The EFF is still suing the corporation however. The ACLU has also appealed the dismissal of their lawsuit against the CIA for illegal torture and kidnapping of German citizen Khaled el-Masri, which I originally wrote about months ago here.

Stem Cells– A solid majority of Americans disapprove of the President’s stem cell veto cast last week.

The Post’s Dan Froomkin has a piece on signing statements and Specter’s reaction to them. Also, the Post’s Fix blog has, uh, kind of a daydream going on.

A farmer in Iowa has been arrested for flying his flag upside down.

And finally…
Tom Friedman is an asshat. I can’t believe he actually said what he said (see link).

…And so is Republican Senator Tom Coburn.
