House Democrats are taking a principled stance in the case of fellow Democrat William Jefferson of Louisiana, who is almost certainly corrupt. They voted late yesterday to kick Jefferson out of his position on the House Ways and Means committee. Funny how you never saw Republicans acting so responsibly in the case of Duke Cunningham, who took millions more dollars from lobbyists than Jefferson likely did. And of course Jefferson hasn’t even been indicted (yet), while Republicans are still defending twice-indicted Tom DeLay.
