Rove, Leopold, Sources, Sealed vs Sealed, Oh my!

Here we go: more on Rove, Leopold, those mysterious sources, a court case mysteriously titled “Sealed vs Sealed,” and more. In a nutshell:

1. The Sources- Leopold and Truthout together will not be outing their sources at this time, because they believe that either they were passed info that the sources believed was right at the time– or the situation has changed, and they give accurate info at the time. You can listen to Leopold in a radio interview talking abou this just the other day here (MP3).

2. Sealed vs Sealed- Leopold says that the Grand Jury returned an indictment named “Sealed vs Sealed” at about the same time that he reported Rove was indicted. He maintains that while he hasn’t read the indictment, legal analysts say it’s very intriguing, and may be related to Rove. Jeralyn of TalkLeft has a great (albeit long) entry on this in particular.

3. But maybe not- It should be noted that the G.J. is used by more prosecutors than just Fitzgerald. The Abramoff case is another high profile case that the G.J. is being used for, for example.

4. But probably? - The indictment was returned on a day that Fitz met with the G.J.- which would suggest that it may indeed be related. After all, how many matters can a Grand Jury cover in one day? Wednesdays and Fridays are “Fitz days” for the G.J.- and Fitz has every Wednesday and Friday reserved for his use of the jury (whether they actually need to meet or not). See Leopold’s latest article, published on Monday.

5. What does Fitz say- Still no comment. Leopold says that he really wants to hear something from the Fitz himself. Leopold has suggested that Luskin isn’t entirely trustworthy, and that some sort of deal may have been brokered. Take this for whatever you think it’s worth. It doesn’t look good for Leopold at this point. I’ll be the first to admit that it wasn’t too long ago that I was calling him “one of the finest independent investigative journalists this side of the blogosphere.” Not that he’s a blogger, but you know what I meant.

6. Crap internet sources- Kos has now gone on the record calling Leopold a “crap internet source.” One DailyKos commenter even said “Jason Leopold is dead to me and he needs to pour gasoline on his sources and light them of fire to even have a prayer of anyone trusting him again.” Hahahaha. I’m not sure I’d quite say that.
