NSA afraid of Tice’s Testimony, trying to block
by Arlen Parsa
As you may remember, a few weeks ago (back when Hayden was up for the CIA director job) I wrote that Russell Tice (one of NYT’s initial sources for the Spygate story published back in December, but written six months earlier) was going to testify before the Senate on the issue of the NSA’s illegal spying programs, and unveil something completely new that he said would “shock” everyone.
A week later, having heard absolutely nothing about what happened, I wondered allowed about what he said, and why wasn’t everybody shocked yet, gosh darnit.
Well now I’ve got a followup. Or rather, ThinkProgress has a followup, via CongressDaily. It appears that the subcommittee that Tice testified to had a special closed hearing to listen to what was said (still no word on what was actually said, or what will become of that testimony).
But here’s the interesting thing. He obviously said something damaging to the NSA (whether or not they know what it is), or they wouldn’t be trying to prevent him from talking to the House Government Reform and National Security Subcommittee. The NSA has broken two deadlines for coming up with a reason why he’s not allowed to talk with ranking Democrat Dennis Kucinich (a progressive Representative from Ohio), or committee Chairman Chris Shays (a Republican from Connecticut).
