Memorial Day Post
by Arlen Parsa

Happy Memorial Day? Is that what one is supposed to say today? Can a day dedicated to memorials really be happy? Welll, no matter what the right greeting is for today, it is right to remember and honor those who have died in served in the Armed Forces and fought in battle– all too often needlessly so.
Memorial Day should not merely be a day of remembering those who sacrificed. It is irresponsible to think only about sacrifice and death: I agrue that we owe it to veterans to consider the reasons for the wars they have fought in.
The idea that there is one special day per year dedicated to rememberance and reflection on this is of course stupid. We should not have to have a federal holiday, a day off work, a three day weekend, for this. If everyone reflected on the sacrifices that soldiers make (and the reasons for the obscenity against humantiy that war is) every day, there wouldn’t be any more wars to reflect on.

This will be the only post which I write today. Regular posting will resume on Tuesday.
