Royalty hates pomp and ceremonies?
by Arlen Parsa

Pfffffft. Royalty.
Prince Philip says all opening and closing ceremonies at the Olympics should be banned.
“I am truly fed up with the opening and closing ceremonies. They are a pain in the neck,” said the Queen’s husband, renowned for his outspoken views and political gaffes.

“Opening and closing ceremonies ought to be banned,” he told the newspaper. “Absolute bloody nuisances. I have been to one that was absolutely, appallingly awful.”
What an old grump. “I have been to one that was absolutely, appallingly awful,” he wails. What a privileged asshole. Well, he’s royalty after all. He hopes that for his sake, in 2012 when London hosts, they won’t have one, or will have a very tiny one. If he lives that long. This is really quite ironic of course, that a member of British royalty is talking about how much he hates pomp and tradition. Because the only reason that British royalty is even kept around is for pomp and tradition. They have no real power or purpose. Reuters article.
