Republican strategy component for November: Judicial Nominees

Sure, I could just link to the Times article, but Wonkette has a much funnier graphic.

The basic strategy (called ‘old’ by NYT in their headline) is that Republicans are counting on the President/Frist to push two judicial nominees. One of them is unqualifed in the eyes of Democrats because he doesn’t have enough experience, and the other one may be filibustered because of his failure to recuse himself at various times (because he has reportedly ruled in cases where his own financial interest was at stake), and because his civil rights record is apparently not so great.

“A good fight on judges does nothing but energize our base,”

That’s what Republican Senator John Thune said about the upcoming nomination hearings. They’re playing politics with judicial nominations, essentially, and they see them as a way to make Democrats look bad if they fillibuster (all that up or down vote rhetoric, essentially). Asshats.
