The Daily Background

Earlier today, CIA Director and Bush appointee Porter Goss resigned. I wrote a little bit about him here, after he resigned, in which I mentioned that he was unqualified for his job by his own direct admission. I didn’t speculate at the time about the reasons for the abrupt and unexpected resignation however (FDL has a word on who his replacement might be). Well, a few hours have passed, and the most widespread thing that’s going around is that his extremely abrupt resignation (the Department of Defense had no idea this was coming) was prompted by ‘something that happened this week.’ What could that mean? Only one thing. Hookergate. He was already rumored to be involved in the prostitution/bribery/poker scandal, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some more concrete links started showing up soon.

This is all speculation, but for the record, I consider the likelyhood of Hookergate being the reason for his abrupt resignation to be very likely.
