Notes: A pretty song about being with a girl on a beach, watching the sunrise. By the way, Minus the Bear has some interesting names for their songs, like “Hey, Wanna Throw Up?,” “You’re Some Sort of Big, Fat, Smart-Bug, Aren’t You?,” “Thanks For […]

Ehhh? Apparently the Democratic Party needs therapy. According to Newsweek’s Michael Hirsh.
You’d think the Republicans would be the ones in need of professional help. This is a party burdened with a president so unpopular he barely has a base to stand on—Bush seems to be bypassing the lame-duck stage and heading straight for dead duck: […]

Oh man, how controversial! What a daring man! Hat tip, ThinkProgress.
ThinkProgress also debunks the right-wing myth of the day: Washington D.C. is more dangerous than Iraq.

Earlier today, I wrote about a planned Iraq troop reduction that was cancelled due to conditions in Iraq. The Boston Globe is reporting that Iraq is seeing a higher level of insurgent attacks and violence than it has in two years. BG writes on the recent Pentagon report about increasing violence, which I originally wrote […]

Holy crap, Tom Noe plead guilty today.
Former GOP fund-raiser Tom Noe admitted today that he used politicians, former aides to Gov. Bob Taft, coworkers, and friends to illegally pour thousands of dollars into the effort to reelect President Bush.
Noe entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Court Judge David Katz in Toledo to all three […]

Despite a police cars, ambulances and military presence, players kill non Christians on the street, and many bodies can be seen strewn on the ground, in an advertisement screenshot.
Apparently there’s a Chsistian video game where the player’s mission is to kill every American who refuses to convert to the religion. Of course, this is totally […]

The Bush Administration took a step toward real diplomacy with Iran, but it is only a baby step. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says that the U.S. will talk directly with Iran if it puts all of its nuclear activities on hold (this is not expected to happen). Even Administration officials are admitting that it […]

Just how much do Republicans hate paying taxes? I was just flipping channels and caught a FOx DaySide host saying that he would go live in space if it would allow him to escape taxes. Wow. That’s amazing. They just haaaate funding the U.S. government. Wow. I’m amazed.

A while ago (okay, a little more than a week ago), I noted that Raw Story was reporting that President Bush and British Prime Minister Blair were planning to announce significant troop reduction, and reduce troop levels by 33,000 people by year end (a 25% decrease). Well, that announcement (which was expected during Blair’s visit […]

Both John Negroponte and Michael Hayden are bald and apparently distracted. The President is not.
General Michael Hayden was fake-sworn-in today, for the cameras at the CIA. He was sworn in for real yesterday in private. The President, who spoke before Hayden was ’sworn in’ apparently felt as though he had to defend his earlier nominee […]

Associated Press:
President Bush invited relatives of some of the 40 passengers and crew members who are portrayed in “United 93″ to join him for a screening of the film at the White House Tuesday night.
Guhhhh. This smacks of a desperate publicity stunt. By the way, the film is totally historically inaccurate, don’t let anybody tell […]

As you might have noticed, there’s one particular major news story that I haven’t been talking about recently. Yes, I’m talking about the Haditha Massacre.
In case you haven’t heard about the story, and have been living on Mars for the last few days (by the way, if you actually are on Mars, give the Bush […]

As TGPW notes, there’s good news for Democrats this fall in the youth demograophic. A poll has found that 73% of respondents intend to vote this fall, and this is good news because Democrats have a substantial advantage over Republicans among young people.
