The huge “Resign, Rumsfeld!” list
by Arlen Parsa
The following extensive list is the largest in existence (that I am aware of), is exclusive to The Daily Background, and was compiled by yours truly, after several hours of research in a library…. err… a several minutes of intensive Googling and Wikipedia looking-up-ing. Feel free to copy the list or parts of it (but if you’d credit me, that’d be nice). I’ll update when needed (and if I’ve missed anybody let me know in the comments section). Okay, you ready for this? Let’s go!
Senators
On Monday, Senator Barack Obama said President Bush should let SoD Donald Rumsfeld go, and on Tuesday Senator Richard Durbin agreed with his fellow Illinois colleague. Durbin suggested that a vote be taken on the Senate floor asking for Rumsfeld’s resignation so a full list could be compiled. After he called for Rumsfeld’s resignation, California’s senior Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) echoed the call. Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) has also called for Rumsfeld’s resignation, as well as Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and John Kerry (D-MA). Senator Hilary Clinton has also called for Rumsfeld’s resignation, saying “the Secretary has lost credibility with the Congress and with the people.”
Democratic Senators Evan Bayh and Carl Levin (from Indianna and Michigan respectively) have also criticized Rumsfeld sharply. In addition, at least one Republican Senator has come out against Secretary of “Defense” Rumsfeld (Chuck Hagel of Nebraska). Republican Senator Trent Lott from Mississippi has also suggested that Rumsfeld be replaced. Senator John McCain of Arizona said that he is “a bit resentful” of “the way the war has been poorly handled.”
House Representatives (likely to be incomplete)
In the House of Representatives, conservative Democrat and war hero John Murtha has called for the Secretary’s resignation as well. House Representative Jane Harman (D-CA) has called for Rumsfeld to be fired as well, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Charles Rangel, a Democratic Representative from New York has too.
Kentucky Republican House Representative Anne Northup called for Secretary Rumsfeld’s resignation in a tight race for re-election.
Former Military Commanders
So far, six, no… seven… no, make that eight… Aw crap, I missed one. That’s nine retired generals who have strongly criticized Rumsfeld, suggesting he resign (Gen. John Batiste, Marine Lt. Gen. Gregory Newbold, Army Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, Maj. Gen. Chas. H. Swannack, Marine Gen. Mike DeLong, Brigadier Gen. Wesley Clark, Lt. Gen. Paul van Riper, Maj. Gen. John Riggs). That’s the latest tally as of today, and we should get it out there, and start using the number eight, rather than six or seven.
In addition, Retired General Batiste has gone so far as to say that Rumsfeld “served up our great military a huge bowl of chicken feces.”
Retired Marine Col. Thomas X. Hammes has also called for Rumsfeld’s resignation.
On Monday November 7th, four leading military publications: Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Corps Times, all called for Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation in a joint editorial.
Other Notable Republicans
Among other notable Republicans who have suggested that Rumsfeld resign are Neocon columnists Robert Kagan, William Kristol, and none other than the Prince of Darkness himself: Robert Novak. In addition, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said in an interview that the Rumsfeld didn’t send in enough troops in the first place, a major point that Rumsfeld has tried to defend, ever since the war started. In addition, Salon reported in June that former President George H.W. Bush wanted to replace Donald Rumsfeld in early 2006, although his son, the current President, rejected the idea.
In 2004 and 2005 then-White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card tried twice to convince President Bush to fire Rumsfeld and get him replaced.
Other Notable Democrats
Former Vice President Al Gore has said that “The nation is especially at risk every single day that Rumsfeld remains as secretary of defense.”
Now, my question is, who did I miss? Leave a comment to let me know, and I’ll update this list. Feel free to steal it, although a backwards link would be appreciated.
The Daily Background

History repeats itself often enough for anyone to read the tea leaves here and come up with something resembling a high probability prediction on the truth of what is happening.
Criminals are running the show.
They will not stop voluntarily. It has to cost the criminal more to continue than it cost to stop committing crimes.
Law is supposed to hold the actual people responsible for crime accountable for their crimes. The cost is then shouldered by the criminal’s themselves. Criminals get away with torture and murder when criminals can pass on the costs.
If anyone is no longer satisfied with paying the costs, then, someone may want to support the effort to hold the criminals accountable for what the criminals are doing right now. The costs will be shouldered by someone.

Who did you leave out in your list of people recommending dropping Rumsfeld? Most of the Republican Party….. unfortunately. What is driving those people not to speak out? Fear? Stupidity? I just don’t get it. And where did all this religion in politics come from. Do these people understand the thinking behind the constitution? I feel like we have a congress dominated by a bunch of Joe Macarthys.
Since Rumsfeld won’t resign, and Bush won’t fire him let’s promote him to…Minister of Propaganda….or should I say …Secretary
