There’s a lot of talk about what we think about the ban on abortion in South Dakota which is supposed to take effect this July. However, I thought that it might be interesting to hear what South Dakotans themselves think of the ban. I was reading an Editor & Publisher article, when I came across this:

He also noted a sharp divide among residents, writing that a statewide poll two years ago by the paper and a local television station found that 34% believed abortion should be legal, 34% said it should be available in some specific circumstances - such as rape, incest or to save the life of the mother - and 25%, he recalled, said it should be illegal under any circumstances.

Of course, the South Dakota ban makes makes no exceptions for rape or incest. So Essentially, this ban on abortion is supported by only 25% of the population in South Dakota. Assuming things haven’t changed radically in the last two years since the latest poll was taken (if you can find more recent poll numbers, I’d love to hear them of course). Interesting indeed.
