Tonight is the Texas Primaries night. This means that Ciro Rodriguez, one of the most prominent netroots canidates is about to either be the toast of the progressive blogosphere, or he’ll lose. Or maybe somewhere in between. There’s the chance of a run-off election between the two of them (there’s a third canidate who nobody expects to get many votes), depending on the results tonight. Supposedly, the voting ended at 8PM Eastern time, but there’s no results up on the election results page yet for the 28th district.

I’ll provide updates as the night goes on.

Forget what I just said. One county is now reporting. Ciro has 393 votes, vs 198 for the incumbant bastard, Cellular. More updates as the night progresses.

Update: I should note: the unofficial (but state run) results page I linked to above updates every 10 minutes. So don’t be updating it every two seconds.

Update 2: 2 districts reporting now, arch-conservative “Democrat” Cellular has 300 votes, and our man Ciro has 408. I want to stress that this is way too early to call anything, especially when Bexar county hasn’t reported yet, which has the 100 out of the 276 total precincts.

Update 3: Just want to note that I’m hearing good things about Bexar, which I just mentioned. Can’t say anything yet, as I’m afraid nothing has been confirmed, but Ciro may sweep Bexar (the largest county) with a wide lead. Again, no calling this yet.

Update 4: Celluar: 469, Ciro: 764, Morales: 144. Our man Ciro is in the lead so far, but it’s still early.

Update 5: The race is getting much tighter, the current “score” is Ciro: 971, Cellular: 8585, Morales: 182. Did I mention that this was far too early to call yet? Because it is. Three precincts reporting now, out of 276.

Update 6: Webb County (which went for Cellular heavily in 2004) have had a computer failure (they use an electronic voting system), according to Tracy Joan, over at Swing State Project, who is liveblogging the elections.

Update 7: I’m optimistic about this election. DallasNews.com says Ciro is leading at 6,113 to 2677. Completely unconfirmed, but we’ll see. Note that those numbers inlcude early reporting, which is not currently shown on the live results page.

Update 8: Some very GOOD news, and some very TROUBLING news. First for the trouble: FDL reports on voting irregularities in 2004 in Webb county. Now for the good news: Ciro just picked up several thousand votes! Check the top of the column for the latest!

Update 9: I want to comment on something very, very distressing. The only county where no votes have been counted is Webb County. Webb is not only Cellular’s base, but also a county where ther have been serious allegeations of voter fraud in the past (see FDL link above). People around the blogosphere are saying that Webb is waiting to find out how many votes are needed to make Cellular the winner. Ciro is still ahead, but Webb is worrying. I’m told that both Ciro’s people and AFL-CIO people have been dispatched to Webb to figure out what the hell is going on.

Update 10: The word on the street is that ballots from Webb County have been impounded, after lawyers from Ciro’s campaign paid election officials a visit. The rumor is that Cellular is extremely worried right now. More as it happens.

Update 11: The early voting from Webb has apparently come in for Cellular as expected. Everyone is saying it’s over. This doesn’t look good.

Update 12: Okay. it’s 11:43pm here (Central time), and that’s probably about it for tonight. Some people (okay, Kos) are saying it may not be decided tonight, if the results from Webb are impounded. I’ll have more on this tomorrow, along with like every other progressive blogger ever.

  1. […] Tonight is the night of the 2006 Texas primaries. Which means that I’m liveblogging the TX-28 results, in a situation where one real Democrat, Ciro Rodriguez, is trying to defeat the incumbent, a Democrat In Name Only (”DINO”) named Henry Cellular, who has voted with the Republican side more than the Democratic side in Congress. […]

  2. […] Notes: I guess I’m feeling kinda low along with the rest of the liberal blogosphere, after what happened and is happening in TX-28. This isn’t a bad song though, I’m sure some would consider it a classic. […]

  3. Hello.

    And have a good day.
