| How embarrassing for the President!

Well. Read this from NYT:
The Energy Department will begin laying off researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the next week or two because of cuts to its budget.
A veteran researcher said the staff had been told that the cuts would be concentrated among researchers in wind and biomass, which includes ethanol. Those are two of the technologies that Mr. Bush cited on Tuesday night as holding the promise to replace part of the nation’s oil imports.
That’d almost be a funny sequence of events, if it wasn’t so horribly, horribly sad. First the President promises that alternative energy is use is going to go way up. That turned out to be an exageration. Then he promises that he’ll give more money to research alternative fuels and it turns out the budget for that is actually being cut!
If there is any increase in research funding Bush will send it to private companies - oil companies or chemical or pharma. Remember, he wants to destroy government. Why not start by killing off government research centers?
