Anything going on in the blogosphere tonight? I’m getting ready to reformat my computer, so I’ve been kinda busy.

[Iraq] About those elections being a step forward…

by Arlen Parsa

You might remember that when the Iraqi elections occurred a few months ago, they were hailed by the White House as a sign of huge progress. Geraldo Riviera even went on tv and showed footage of people with purple fingers, and ‘interviewed’ troops who said they were happy to see Iraqis vote. Meanwhile, those of […]

The President’s India trip: failure before it begins

You might know that the President is visiting India for his first time. What you might not know, is that his trip has already been a complete and utter failure.

New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in a detailed statement to both Houses of Parliament on Monday, said India “cannot accept safeguards on our indigenous […]

Judicial Watch sues Secret Service over Abramoff records

Just a little while ago, I wrote that the New York Times was suing the Department of Defense for failing to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to disclose documents related to the government’s unconstitutional NSA wiretapping program.
Well, now word comes (via ThinkProgress) that a group called Judicial Watch is sueing the […]

NYT trying to crack open NSA story further…

According to the Newsday (although it appears to be an Associated Press story), the New York Times (who originally broke the unconstitutional NSA domestic spying story) has sued the Department of Defense (parent agency of NSA), to either comply with its December FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request, or provide a legal reason of why […]

[Troops] Encouraging/Depressing Poll Numbers

Filed at 3:30 pm, Tuesday February 28th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

Only 23 percent backed Bush’s position that they should stay as long as necessary. In contrast, 72 percent said that U.S. troops should be pulled out within one year. Of those, 29 percent said they should withdraw “immediately…”
That’s data from the newest Zogby poll. But there’s also some sad news. Apparently the troops are woefully […]

[2006] Congressional poll numbers

by Arlen Parsa

Earlier today, we talked about the President’s new low, low poll numbers.
Now, MyDD has cited the new CBS poll further, and noted that Republican controlled congress has its worst approval ratings for more than 10 years. Innnnteresting. Analyists note that back in 1994, with comparable poll ratings, the Democrats lost control of congress. Could this […]

The President who changed his mind

Earlier today, I noted that the Administration wants very much to cut veterans health care. I also noted that was not cool, especially with their pattern of cutting health care to the poor (Medicaid), and cutting money for education, among other things.
Today’s Washington Post reports that those aren’t the only programs the White House wants […]

The day Joe Lieberman killed the music

Apparently, conservative Bush-ally Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman (who is often seen as a Democrat In Name Only –DINO), has been forcing his ideological beliefs on the music industry.
Lieberman is being opposed this midterm election year, by real Democrat Ned Lamont this year, whom many of us support. Myself included.

Your tax money doesn’t go to…

When the President’s new budget came out a little while ago, I discussed his proposed cuts to programs that help people, such as Medicare, U.S. Food Aid, and education.
The next people to suffer from the White House’s proposed budget? Veterans. Associated Press:

At least tens of thousands of veterans with non-critical medical issues could suffer delayed […]

The President’s new poll numbers

Kos noted yesterday that CBS has released the President’s new poll numbers. The results? Not good– for him.

Mr. Bush’s overall job rating has fallen to 34 percent, down from 42 percent last month. Fifty-nine percent disapprove of the job the president is doing.
For the first time in this poll, most Americans say the president does […]

1,300 Iraqis killed in chaotic week

From page A01 of today’s Washington Post:

Grisly attacks and other sectarian violence unleashed by last week’s bombing of a Shiite shrine have killed more than 1,300 Iraqis, making the past few days the deadliest of the war outside of major U.S. offensives, according to Baghdad’s main morgue. The toll was more than three times higher […]

The Daily MP3

I’ve been inspired by Rox, into doing something similar to her Random Ten, which is a list of ten songs she’s listening to– that she posts periodically.
I’m going to make a few adjustments though. Instead of featuring ten songs, I’m going to do one. And instead of weekly, I’m going to do it daily. And […]

Young people, Dead people voting

WaPo’s Jefferson Morley writes:

Old enough to drive, old enough to vote. That’s the conclusion of a British parliamentary commission, which recommended lowering the voting age to 16 years of age as part of a broader effort to reinvigorate democracy in the United Kingdom.
Gordon Brown, heir-apparent to Prime Minister Tony Blair, once opposed the idea but […]
