The Daily Background

The senate is debating on whether or not to confirm Alito today. C-SPAN is reporting the current numbers are 57-36 57-37. The Senators who have not yet signaled their intentions are the following:

Bayh (D)
Dorgan (D)
Landrieu (D)
Menendez (D) (Voted No)
Snowe (R)
Rockefeller (D)
Cantwell (D)
Murray (D)

According to C-SPAN, if cloture passes on the upcoming filibuster (to end it), the final vote will take place at 11AM tomorow. While it’s possible that Snowe (a moderate Republican) might still vote against Alito, she’s likely going to oppose the filibuster. The only Republican to come out against Alito thus far is Senator Chaffee. This wasn’t really expected, but welcome. No word on how he’d vote on cloture to end a filibuster though.

Update: georgia10 says that Chaffee will vote for cloture.
