Bob Ney to Resign Position?
by Arlen Parsa
I’ve covered Ney’s connections to Abramoff in the past, and noted that he might be indicted at any time. It’s looking right now as though he’s looking to resign his position as chairman of the House Administration Committee pretty soon as well. AP brings us:
mbattled Ohio Republican Bob Ney is in talks with House Speaker Dennis Hastert about resigning his chairmanship of the House Administration Committee, a senior House GOP aide told The Associated Press on Friday.
Ney has been linked to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and has denied wrongdoing in the burgeoning scandal. But he is facing the loss of his chairmanship as House Republicans seek to implement an ambitious lobbying reform agenda, much of which would pass through his committee.
“There have been ongoing discussions between Speaker Hastert and Rep. Ney about his role as chairman of the House Administration Committee,” said Hastert spokesman Ron Bonjean.
More here.
Update: Well. My My. Roll Call has a slightly different perspective:
Rep. Bob Ney’s days as chairman of the House Administration Committee appear numbered, as Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) is considering asking the Republican Conference to oust the Ohioan from his post, GOP sources said Friday.
A showdown could be avoided, however, if Ney voluntarily relinquishes the post before the Conference meets Feb. 2.
So he might be kicked out of his position, rather merely than stepping down? Interesting. We’ll see what happens. Read on here.
