What’s RSS?

RSS (sometimes called XML) is a technology. Actually, a really cool one. The idea is that it’s like getting email updates from your favorite websites (such as news websites, your favorite blogs, and so on), delivered to your computer 24×7, for free. It helps us keep track of what’s going on- and also makes sure we never miss an important article or posting. There are two different ways you can subscribe via RSS.

1. Through email:

Enter your Email:

If you sign up through email, you’ll be sent an email at the end of every day which contains each entry for the previous day (you can always unsubscribe from this).

2. Through a special program on your computer:

You can find a lot of different programs that read RSS feeds which you can download to your computer for free at this Wikipedia entry.

The direct url for The Daily Background’s RSS feed is:

  1. You really Gotcha nice blog here

  2. […] I’d like to suggest that those who only read The Daily Background through its RSS feed check out the actual homepage once and a while as well. Why? Well, because there’s content that’s published that isn’t available through the feed, namely the Asides published in the middle column. Check out the current content in the Asides area: Oh, and if you haven’t subscribed to the RSS feed, check it out (What’s RSS?). […]

  3. […] I’m back in New Hampshire by the way, where I’ll be staying until a week or two after the primaries here, so I’ll be able to vote in them, as well as blog about them from a local point of view. Subscribe to Ye Olde RSS feed if you haven’t already (what’s RSS?). […]
